Mars on 22/12/2007 According to NASA - reports the 50m large asteroid 2007WD5 will pass on 30/01/08 on 12:00 UT probably 26000km distant from Mars center. The probability of an impact was calculated at first with 1:350, after that with 1:25 (3.9%), now with 1:10.000 (0.01%). The asteroid is about as large as the Tunguska meteorit which hit Sibiria in 1908. In the case of an impact astronomers believe that a crater of nearly 1km would have occured. The dust cloud would have been seen in big telescopes on earth and even more on images of the Mars probes Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter and Mars Express. 2007 WD5 is now on the way from Earth to Mars. On Friday, 13/04/2029 the asteroid 2004 MN4 Apophis will pass Earth in a similar way in a distance of 30.000km. In the year 2036 and 2037 it will pass our planet again - with the small impact probability of 1:5.000 to 1:50.000. During the impact of an asteroid or comet energies of many hydrogen bombs (50 Megatons TNT) are released. This asteroid 2007 WD5 has only an impact energy of 3 Megatons - 200x the Hiroshima Bomb.
